“Atsu” is a dance performance created by the CoDa Movement collective, choreographed by Magda Wójcik and Stefano Otoyo. Based on Japanese shiatsu massage, the performance is a ceremony in which the dancers’ movements reflect different versions of pressure and relaxation. “Atsu” explores the theme of a ceremony between two strangers, delving into their roots. In the process, it explores the relationship between two friends. The Zawirowania Dance Theatre is a co-producer of the performance.

Performance synopsis

In Japanese, the word Atsu means massage, but also pressure. The movement in the performance is based on Japanese shiatsu massage, in which the massager performs a kind of choreography. Atsu is a process that begins with a ceremony between two strangers, reaching the roots of the symbolic meaning of everything around us, everything we underestimate, and which in reality oppresses us and holds us in a mental cage. Do we truly make our own decisions, or are we somehow guided by cultural pressures?
